Team's Social Responsibility

A Boston sports team that is maintaining their responsibility of giving back to the community is the Red Sox. The Red Sox have a nonprofit organization called the Red Sox foundation. They use their power and influence in the city to promote it's goal of improving health, education and recreational opportunities in urban areas. This foundation has received 50 million dollars in donations over the past ten years to aid a variety of charities and non-profit programs. They have partnerships with a variety of health institutions and fund youth baseball programs for over 700 children.

In September of 2009, they launched a program to serve New England based veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with traumatic brain injuries and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This was called the Red Sox Foundation and Mass General Hospital Home Base Program. Their goal is to provide veterans with PTSD and TBI with treatments and evaluations. Family counseling is also available for the family members of those affected by these conditions.
